Frequently Asked Questions

GPS NAVIGATION APPLICATION

Q: How does the system know where I am?
A: The RP 3000H system uses two things to plot your location :
  • GPS (Global Positioning Satellite): the system communicates with a GPS satellite through an external antenna to determine your position.
  • Map data on the HDD: stores expressways, major roads, minor roads/streets, and important points of interest (including restaurants and hotels) within a given region.
Your position is determined by the data from the signal transmitted by the GPS satellite. The RP3000H (navigation) system compares that data with the map information stored on the HDD, then calculates your location and displays it on the map.

Q: How accurate is the Road Pilot Software (RP 3000H)?
A: The RP 3000H system constantly recalculates your position, and the GPS accuracy is usually within 5 to 10 metres. If you lose track of the GPS satellite for an extended period, your position is confirmed immediately upon re-contacting the satellite. The map data base is updated and a new version release made available every year with information on new roads, buildings, etc.etc.

Q: Does my system (GPS) work in basement car parks and tunnels?
A: The GPS receiver/antenna must be in full view of the open sky for it to receive a valid GPS signal. Covered areas such as basement/multi-storey car parks, tunnels, dense overhead foliage (trees) and /or overhead awnings/structures would not allow the system to receive a valid GPS signal.

Q: What maps are available?
A: At present, only the SINGAPORE map database is available.

INSTALLATION

Q: How do I install my RP 3000H?
A: All installation works for the RP 3000H must be carried out by a qualified and authorized installer. Please do not attempt to self-install the system. Please see the “Retail Location & Distributors” section for a list of authorized installers.

Q What is the best installation setup or configuration?
A: There is no best setup or configuration as such. The RP 3000H has a fixed audio and video output. Your qualified and authorized installer would be able to advice further depending on the availability of space and other audio/video components within your vehicle.

Q: Where can I mount my GPS antenna and receiver?
A: The GPS antenna must be mounted inside the vehicle. However, the antenna and receiver must be in full view of the sky, so please keep the following in mind:
  • Do not place the antenna at the front or rear windshield area if you have a finely wired rear sunscreen protector or metallic window tint or solar-reflective windshield.
  • Place the GPS antenna at least 15 cm from any other communications antenna or a physical obstruction.
